Join us on Earth Day (Thursday, April 22) for the kickoff of Spring Season of Caring, our annual tradition of gathering with neighbors in service of our community. Our mission here at United Way for Greater Austin is to bring people, ideas, and resources together to fight poverty in our community. Keeping that mission and COVID-19 safety in mind, this year we are hosting a virtual gathering of community, and we have curated some self-guided, socially distanced opportunities for any individuals or groups to get involved.

Spring Season of Caring, socially distanced activities
Live United and take pride in your community! We encourage you to take part in any of these self-guided community beautification activities on your own time throughout Spring Season of Caring.
How does it work?
Pick one of these curated Community Beautification Routes that piques your interest. Spend an hour volunteering, learning, exploring, and collecting trash. We’ve curated a few different locations around town to help you get to know Austin’s past and present. Sharing your photos on social media? Make sure to tag us @UnitedWayATX and use our hashtag #VolunteerUnited.
- Route 1 – EAST: Downs-Mabson Fields and the Boggy Creek Greenbelt
- Route 2 – WEST: Historic Landmarks in Clarksville
- Route 3 – CENTRAL: Republic Square and the Shoal Creek Trail
What should you bring with you on your route?
- Trash bags
- Trash grabber – kitchen tongs work in a pinch!
- Gloves
- Mask
- Hand sanitizer
*If public trash cans are full, please take your collected trash home with you.
*Please look out for poison ivy that has been noted on some of these routes.
What if you can’t make it to one of these curated routes?
Beautify where you live! We invite you to clean up trash and beautify where you live, whether it’s in your front yard, on your street, around your local elementary school, or a nearby creek. Our partners at Keep Austin Beautiful are offering FREE Cleanup Kits to community members while supplies last through their “Love Where You Live Day,” May 8, 2021. More details can be found here.
We encourage all volunteers to follow the City of Austin Public Health and CDC safety guidelines. Please practice safe social distancing and wear masks during your clean-up. For more information on the City of Austin recommendations for COVID-19 safety, please see the Austin Public Health website.
