Providing a lifeline with services and support

We are here to meet our community’s most urgent needs.

United Way for Greater Austin has the experience and vantage point to facilitate the greatest impact in the collective fight to break the cycle of economic insecurity. We offer direct services when we’re in the best position to do so, and when we’re not, we invest in nonprofits doing impactful and aligned work. Our multi-faceted approach means essential services and programs are always equitable and ready to make an immediate and long-term impact.

Parenting Students Project

Research shows a $3,000 difference in parents’ income while a child is young leads to a 17% increase in that child’s future earnings.

The Parenting Students Project removes barriers parenting students face to help them continue on education pathways to living wage employment, such as a monthly stipend and child care scholarships.

$ 999
awarded to each Parenting Students Project participant last year, with a total of $329,000 awarded for all students enrolled

“I can focus more on school and being a parent. It’s been very nice to have that extra income coming in that I can delegate to bills or expenses. It’s also been nice to have that support system there and hear what other parents are going through and help each other.”
–Tommy, Parenting Students Project participant

Home Visiting

Programs like Pathways Community HUB, Family Connects, and more home visiting programs help parents and caregivers give their children the best start to life through education and health screenings, connecting them to community resources when needed.

Addressing Cancer Together

Cancer is the #1 killer in Central Texas, and uninsured patients are six times more likely to be diagnosed with late-stage cancer. Early detection and increased life expectancy go hand in hand: The five-year life expectancy of Stage 4 breast cancer is just 27% compared to a 99% life expectancy for Stage 1.

Expands access to cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment in Central Texas – to save lives and reduce the economic burden of cancer on families and communities.

We understand the cost of living crisis our community faces.

That’s why we’re creating a vibrant and economically secure space for everyone – using services and support for a near and long-term impact.
