About 2-Gen for Economic Advancement

Research shows that a $3,000 difference in a parent’s income when their child is young leads to a 17% increase in that child’s future earnings.*

Two-generation approaches build family well-being by intentionally and simultaneously working with children and the adults in their lives together. We center the whole family to ensure those seeking family-sustaining income can build a legacy of educational success and economic prosperity that passes from one generation to the next.

Understanding the impact financial stability has for both parents and children, the 2-Gen Coalition for Economic Advancement seeks to increase the percent of Austin/Travis County families earning above family-sustaining income by advancing postsecondary success and employment pathways for parents and guardians of children.

We’re investing in healthy, thriving families by providing timely, intentional services and information so they can go beyond making ends meet and reach their full potential.

“When we first reached out to United Way for support, our only thought was increasing child care options for young parents trying to re-engage with education. Becoming involved with United Way’s 2-Gen initiative and the 2-Gen provider network helped us to understand the importance of high-quality early childhood education and how that integrated with our education and training programs to create the greatest impact for the families we work with.”
